Ambika Mod, Neve Campbell join Black Doves Season 2

Ambika Mod and Neve Campbell are among the star names joining the cast for Season 2 of Netflix’s Black Doves.
The spy thriller, which debuted last December, introduced us to Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a quick-witted, down to earth, dedicated wife and mother — and professional spy. For 10 years, she’s been passing on her politician husband’s secrets to the shadowy organisation she works for: the Black Doves. When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated, her spymaster, the enigmatic Reed (Sarah Lancashire), calls in Helen’s old friend Sam (Ben Whishaw) to keep her safe. Together, Helen and Sam set off on a mission to investigate who killed Jason and why.
Set against the backdrop of London at Christmas, the result was a sharp, witty and surprisingly seasonal hit.
“Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw are sensational in this darkly entertaining spy thriller,” we wrote in our review.
Keira Knightley, Ben Whishaw and Sarah Lancashire will return for Season 2 alongside Andrew Buchan, Kathryn Hunter, Ella Lily Hyland, Gabrielle Creevy, Agnes O’Casey and Molly Chesworth. Now, Netflix has added a host of big names to join its already impressive cast. New additions to the cast include Ambika Mod (One Day) playing Laila, an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent who is sent to help Helen on a mission. Babou Ceesay (Alien: Earth) will play Mr Conteh, a Black Doves executive with suspicious motivations and Sam Riley (Firebrand) will play Patrick, an emissary from a mysterious organisation, who offers Sam a lifeline. Neve Campbell (Scream) will also join the cast as Cecile Mason.
Additional casting includes Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049) playing Katia Chernov, Goran Kostic (Canary Black and Ant-Man and The Wasp) playing Alexi Chernov and Samuel Barnett (Lee) playing Jerry.
Season 2 will follow Helen (Keira Knightley) as she continues to betray her nation’s secrets to the Black Doves. But after the misadventures of last Christmas, and with her husband Wallace preparing to become Prime Minister, she is walking a more treacherous line than ever. As Helen’s enigmatic handler Mrs Reed (Sarah Lancashire) is ensnared in a ruthless plot to undermine her position in the Black Doves, Helen is reunited with her best friend Sam. The once high-end triggerman is now reduced to lonely drinks in Soho bars and low-rate hits. As they search for answers, loyalties are weaponised, trust is shattered, and the fight to protect the people they love could cost everything.
Joe Barton (Writer, Creator and Executive Producer) says: “I couldn’t be more excited to delve back into the world of our murderous little spy family. To have so many of our amazing cast returning and also being able to add some of my absolute favourite actors into the mix is such a great joy. Downing Street will never be the same again…”
Anne Mensah (VP of Content, Netflix UK) says: “To say we are over excited about welcoming the Black Doves team back to Netflix would be an understatement. This is what happens when best in class writing meets best in class directing and extraordinary acting in a dark alley with guns and champagne. We couldn’t be more thrilled and we know the Black Doves fandom is waiting!”
Filming is currently underway in and around London.
