Amazon releases new Red Oaks trailer

Amazon has released a trailer for Red Oaks ahead of its October premiere.
The coming-of-age comedy is directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express, Joe) and produced by Steven Soderbergh and stars Craig Roberts (Submarine) as a tennis coach in a 1980s country club.
The show was part of the same Amazon pilot season as Hand of God, starring Ron Perlman, and Philip K Dick adaptation The Man in the High Castle, all of which have been commissioned for full seasons. All episodes of the show will premiere on Amazon Prime Instant Video, which costs £5.99 a month, on Friday 9th October, hot on the heels of Perlman’s legal drama. Indeed, Amazon’s slate of original series will see a new show arrive every month until early next year.
“It’s not often that a TV show feels fully-formed in its first episode. A typical series takes a few weeks to settle in, to reveal its characters, to find its voice,” we wrote of the pilot last year. “Red Oaks is not one of those series.”
“It’s a treat to see a leading role that showcases the Submarine star, a part that allows him to build on his neurotic presence with likeable depth. His wide eyes are wonderfully terrified, but he is also sarcastic and assertive; far from the stereotyped loser he could have been.”
David Gordon Green has praised Amazon for the flexibility of their approach to television.
“Tonally, you can blur the line between comedy and drama a lot more when you don’t have a test screening audience telling you what’s funny, you know?” the director told us in an interview last year.
“You can go sensitive and subtle, you can go with letting a moment breathe. Especially with Amazon, where it doesn’t have to be 28 minutes and 30 seconds an episode. There’s no reason it can’t be 31 minutes.”
