How much HBO Max UK costs – and the cheapest way to get it
David Farnor | On 28, Mar 2026
HBO Max UK has launched in the UK – and, as the streaming landscape becomes increasingly fragmented and looks a lot like TV used to, people are working out which services they can actually afford to subscribe to. Which means that as well as what titles are on HBO’s subscription platform, there’s one other big question people have: how much does HBO Max UK cost?

HBO Max and Sky pricing
Sky customers can have access to HBO Basic with Ads at no extra cost when subscribed to a Sky Ultimate TV bundle, which costs £24 a month. They can also upgrade to more expensive tiers of HBO Max within that bundle, and then have the HBO Basic with Ads fee deducted from their higher bill.
However, it’s worth noting that any HBO series that started airing in the UK on Sky (usually via Sky Atlantic) will continue to be part of Sky’s licensing deal with HBO, so shows such as The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, The White Lotus and Euphoria will all be available to Sky customers without needing an HBO Max subscription – it’s the back catalogue and other new exclusives, such as The Pitt, that will only be available to HBO Max subscribers.
HBO Max and NOW
Like Sky, NOW – Sky’s contract-free streaming service – has integrated HBO Max UK directly into its interface. But what’s key here is that any NOW Entertainment subscribers have been automatically upgraded to a new package at no extra cost: NOW Entertainment & HBO Max.
The challenge with NOW is that you need to pay a separate Boost fee to get no adverts and unlock up to 4K and Dolby 5.1 surround. That costs £9 for 4K and £6 for 1080p. Without Boost, your content will only stream in 720p.
Here’s how the pricing works out:
NOW Entertainment & HBO Max – £9.99/month
Access to HBO Max Basic with Ads alongside NOW Entertainment library.
Also available for £6.99, six-month minimum term.
NOW Entertainment – £7.99/month
Access to NOW Entertainment library, plus returning HBO shows.
Also available for £2.99, six-month minimum term.
Again, it’s worth noting that any HBO series that started airing in the UK on NOW will be available on the standard NOW Entertainment package – it’s the back catalogue and other new exclusives, such as The Pitt, that will only be available to HBO Max subscribers. That means if you want to watch Euphoria or House of the Dragon, you can lock in a £2.99 a month subscription with NOW Entertainment and not miss anything. If you want to watch The Pitt, or go back to earlier seasons of HBO shows, you’ll need the NOW Entertainment & HBO Max tier.
Cinema is available as a separate subscription or a combined bundle:
Cinema – £9.99/month
Also available for £6.99, 6-month minimum term.
Cinema + Entertainment + Boost – £6.98/month
6-month minimum term.
6-months free Boost.
Sky Originals and exclusive US shows.
Cinema + Entertainment & HBO Max – £13.98/month
6-month minimum term.
Every series from HBO Max Basic with Ads.
Boost not included.
Which is the best price?
It depends on your context and what you’re looking for – whether you want something integrated into another platform or app you already use, if you want to subscribe directly and how important video quality is to you. Whether you want to be locked in to a 6 or 12-month contract is also a factor to consider.
But if you are wanting to be able to access both Sky original shows and HBO Max UK’s library, the NOW bundles offer very good value at present, as NOW looks to keep as many customers as possible.
