Watch: New trailer for Happy Gilmore 2
VOD News | On 02, Jun 2025
“It’s great to see you back…” That’s the sound of Happy Gilmore returning to our screens this July – and a new trailer gives us a closer glimpse of the Netflix sequel.
The 1996 sports comedy followed the unconventionally long-driving hero Happy Gilmore, whose slap shot approach to teeing off made the failed hockey player an unexpectedly effective underdog on the golf course. On a mission to raise enough money to pay the IRS for his grandmother’s years of delinquent back taxes, he crossed paths with the one-handed Chubbs Petersen (Carl Weathers) and enemies in the arrogant Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald).
Now, Netflix has ordered a sequel, which will see Sandler reprise his role alongside Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit and Christopher McDonald, plus new co-star Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny).
Original Happy Gilmore co-writer Tim Herlihy is returning to write the script, with Happy Gilmore director Dennis Dugan serving as executive producer, and Happy Gilmore producers Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds also producing. Murder Mystery director Kyle Newacheck will reunite with Sandler to helm the sequel.
The film will premiere on 25th July. Here’s the trailer – and below it, a teaser:
Adam Sandler and Netflix team up for Happy Gilmore 2
17th May 2024
Almost 30 years after Adam Sandler introduced the world to Happy Gilmore, Netflix and Sandler are teaming up for a sequel.
The 1996 sports comedy followed the unconventionally long-driving hero Happy Gilmore, whose slap shot approach to teeing off made the failed hockey player an unexpectedly effective underdog on the golf course. Sandler’s titular character endured a long, strenuous season of golf – and one knockdown brawl with The Price Is Right’s Bob Barker – and was on a mission to raise enough money to pay the IRS for his grandmother’s years of delinquent back taxes.
Along the way, he made allies with the one-handed Chubbs Petersen (Carl Weathers) and enemies in the arrogant Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald).
There has been much speculation over the years since about a potential sequel, with characters from the film even popping up in other Sandler comedies, including Jack and Jill, Little Nicky and Hubie Halloween. Now a follow-up is officially on the way. Details about the sequel aren’t currently confirmed, but the project continues Sandler’s long-standing relationship with Netflix.
