The Choir: James Corden and Ruth Jones reteam for Apple TV+ series
James Corden and Ruth Jones are getting back together for a new comedy series at Apple TV+.
Reportedly called The Choir, Deadline says that the Gavin & Stacey co-creators will be reuniting for the new project, which has been commissioned by Apple. Apple is building up a repertoire of UK originals, including Slow Horses and Bad Sisters, as well as romantic comedy Trying.
Now, that Rafe Spall sitcom is getting some company, with Corden and Jones set to write, exec-produce and star in The Choir. Deadline reports that the duo will play Ben and Lisa, a brother and sister who haven’t seen each other in years, with Ben living abroad while Lisa continues to live in their small English town where nothing happens. But events force Ben to return to the life he never wanted, a town he doesn’t like and a family he doesn’t know anymore.
The eight-part comedy-drama is rumoured to have been the result of an £8 million deal with Apple, although that hasn’t been confirmed or announced. What is for sure, however, is that Gavin & Stacey’s success has left the pair two of TV’s most sought-after talents, following 2024’s smash hit finale that drew more than 20 million people in on Christmas Day. Corden, of course, has a sizeable US following after hosting The Late, Late Show for years, while Jones will soon be seen in Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, Run Away.
Filming on The Choir is expected to begin next year. Expect an official announcement from Apple TV+ sometime between now and then.
