Taskmaster is getting ready to ring in the new year once again, with a star-studded line-up for its latest New Year’s Treat.
The one-off special will follow the format of the main comedy competition: it will see the formidable Taskmaster Greg Davies once again put a string of celebrity guests through their paces in a series of ludicrous challenges supervised by his devoted sidekick, Alex Horne. The New Year’s outing was first introduced in 2021, following the show’s 10th season and was followed by another in 2022, 2023 and 2024..
The main series, continuing to do gangbusters in its Channel 4 home, recently concluded its 20th run, which saw Maisie Adam compete against Reece Shearsmith, Anita Magliano, Phil Ellis and Sanjeev Bhaskar. Now, hot on the heels of the finale, Taskmaster is already lining up its farewell to 2025 – and this year’s festive outing will span two episodes for the first time.
Last year’s New Year’s Treat featured David James, Hannah Fry, Martin Lewis, Melanie Blatt and Sue Johnston. This year, the famous and courageous personalities stepping up to the challenge of impressing the formidable Taskmaster are: BAFTA-winning TV chef and musician Big Zuu (Big Zuu’s Big Eats, UKTV); former footballer Jill Scott MBE; actress, presenter, and children’s book author Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE (Code of Silence, ITV1); BRIT-nominated singer, songwriter and musician Sam Ryder; and lexicographer, etymologist and presenter Susie Dent (Countdown, 8 Out 10 Cats Does Countdown, Channel 4). Of these five incredibly special guests, only one can win the annual bunfight for Greg Davies’s coveted Golden Eyebrows trophy.
Watch this space for confirmation of an air date for each episode. The casting announcement follows the news that the fourth instalment of Taskmaster Champion of Champions is also on the way, with the winner of Season 20 facing off against the previous winners of Seasons 16 to 20: Andy Zaltzman, John Robins, Mathew Baynton and Sam Campbell. One of them will cart home the ultimate prize of Greg Davies’s body forged in gold.
