Staged Season 3 to debut on BritBox UK

Staged will return for a third season, which will debut exclusively on BritBox UK.
Created by Simon Evans and Phin Glynn, the award-winning series stars David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg. The programme first aired during Covid-19 pandemic, with Tennant and Sheen playing themselves navigating lockdown. They were due to star in a production of Six Characters In Search Of An Author in the West End. The pandemic has put paid to that, but their director (Simon Evans – also playing himself) is determined not to let the opportunity pass him by. He knows how big a chance this is for him and turns his attention to cajoling his stars into rehearsing over the internet.
Season 2 was swiftly greenlit, picking up as the pair attempt to navigate their ‘new normal’ at home with their increasingly exasperated families while simultaneously trying to tackle the world of virtual Hollywood and their ever more fragile egos. Also returning were Lucy Eaton alongside Nina Sosanya and Simon Evans with the addition of Ben Schwartz, playing the assistant to Michael and David’s American agent.
Now, the show will return to our screens once again to spread some seasonal good cheer and its usual healthy dose of squabbling.
Season 3 resumes as things have returned to normal for David and Michael. They have moved on from lockdown and returned to their everyday working life, while Simon’s career remains stagnant. His phone does ring, but only to ask if he can get David and Michael back together; and they’ve made it clear they want nothing more to do with him. But Christmas is approaching, and Simon hopes the warmth of the season might soften them to the idea of a radio version of a Christmas classic… but that’s as far as Simon’s plan has got.
After Season 1 and 2 premiered on BBC One, the third season will debut on BritBox UK on 24th November. It will be joined by the first two seasons and a special, which features mistakes and outtakes as well as how the show itself was made.
The news comes as some surprise, as ITV prepares to shift its branding weight behind its revamp of ITV Hub, soon to be rebranded as ITV X. The new platform will be a free streaming service, with a paid subscription available to remove adverts and also give access to BritBox’s catalogue. You can find out more about ITVX here.

Michael Sheen and David Tennant return for Staged season 2
22nd October 2020
Michael Sheen and David Tennant will reunite – but not in the same room – for a second season of Staged.
The BBC One comedy, from Infinity Hill and GCB Films, aired earlier this year, and saw the two stars playing semi-fictional versions of themselves as they tried to adjust to lockdown following the coronavirus outbreak.
Season 2 sees the pair attempt to navigate their new normal at home with their increasingly exasperated families while simultaneously trying to tackle the world of virtual Hollywood and their ever more fragile egos. Also returning are Georgia Tennant, Anna Lundberg and Lucy Eaton alongside Nina Sosanya and Simon Evans – plus a new addition to the regular cast, Ben Schwartz, playing the assistant to Michael and David’s American agent.
Following on from the surprise appearances in Season 1 of Judi Dench and Samuel L Jackson this season sees the regulars joined in their virtual hell by a whole host of unexpected guests. It hopes to capture our shared feelings of frustration and confusion at a world not quite ready to re-open. Moments that promise normality dashed before they can take hold. The tantalising prospect of comfort kept at bay.
Michael Sheen says: “It’s been so great to see how much people enjoyed the first season. Seemed like the laughs were much appreciated. It made us really excited about taking it further and going in some surprising and hopefully enjoyable directions this time.”
Georgia Tennant adds: “The prospect of getting my husband back into employment alongside the divine Ben Schwartz and the hairy, Welsh legend that is Michael Sheen all makes me very happy to be back for Season 2!”
