VOD News | On 03, Jan 2026
“You got this. You’ve just got to go out there and crush it.” That’s the sound of Wonder Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and a new trailer gives us a first look at the self-aware Disney+ series, which is hoping to fight superhero fatigue.
The eight-episode series is created by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Andrew Guest (Community, Hawkeye) and stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley, who reprises his role as Trevor Slattery following appearances in Iron Man 3, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and All Hail the King.
The series follows aspiring Hollywood actor, Simon Williams, who is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery, an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns that legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film Wonder Man. These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry – and the super-secret that Simon is attempting to hide.
All eight episodes will arrive together on Disney+ UK on 28th January. Here’s the trailer:
Ben Kingsley joins Marvel’s Wonder Man as Trevor Slattery
31st August 2022
Ben Kingsley is set to join the cast of Wonder Man in the familiar role of Trevor Slattery, reports Variety.
The character, a failed actor who has appeared multiple times in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, most recently appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, where he was taken prisoner by The Mandarin, Shang-Chi’s father Xu Wenwu. Now, Kingsley (Sexy Beast) is set to reunite with Shang-Chi helmer Destin Daniel Cretton, who will exec-produce Wonder Man, a series he has co-created with Andrew Guest.
The series will follow Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man. In the comics, he’s the son of a wealthy industrialist whose company falls on hard times as a result of Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. When Baron Zemo offers him superpowers – including super strength and durability – he winds up fighting the Avengers. How exactly that will translate to the screen isn’t clear, but Wonder Man has been actor and a stuntman in the comics, which suggests that the show will be a Hollywood-set tale, allowing Slattery to make a return.
Andrew Guest will serve as head writer on the series, with Cretton possibly directing. Cretton is already set to helm a Shang-Chi sequel, with the director under an overall deal with Marvel Studios.
