Trailer: Cross returns to Amazon for Season 2
VOD News | On 17, Jan 2026
Aldis Hodge is stepping back into the shoes of Alex Cross this February, and a new trailer gives us a first look at Season 2 of the Amazon Prime Video series.
Based on the characters created by James Patterson, the thriller follows Alex Cross (Hodge), a brilliant homicide detective and forensic psychologist with an uncanny ability to get inside the minds of killers in order to stop them.
Season 2 pushes the series into a bolder, more dangerous chapter, as billionaire business titan Lance Durand (Matthew Lillard) calls the FBI for protection after receiving a death threat – one that links him to the murder of a billionaire playboy. Detective Alex Cross and FBI Agent Kayla Craig (Alona Tal) lead a new joint mission to protect Durand and to find the killer, who leaves behind gruesome clues. Meanwhile, John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa), Cross’ partner and longtime best friend, makes an unexpected connection.
Alongside the addition of Matthew Lillard, the cast will also see the arrival of Jeanine Mason and Wes Chatham, alongside returning stars Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd and Johnny Ray Gill.
You can see them in action on 11th February, when Season 2 premieres on Amazon Prime Video. The first three episodes will arrive together, followed by episodes arriving weekly until the finale on 18th March. Here’s the trailer:

28th October 2022
Aldis Hodge will star as Alex Cross in Amazon’s new series based on James Patterson’s novels.
From Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television, Cross has been in the works for some time at Amazon Studios, but has now formally been given a series order. The thriller, created by producer and writer Ben Watkins, follows the detective and forensic psychologist, uniquely capable of digging into the psyches of killers and their victims, in order to identify — and ultimately capture — the murderers.
Aldis Hodge (Black Adam, City On A Hill, One Night In Miami) will play the titular character and also serves as a producer on the series.
“James Patterson is among the best at captivating audiences with his undeniably enthralling novels and we are confident that with Ben Watkins’ artistic vision, Cross will do the same for our global customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios. “We are proud to work with James and Ben alongside Paramount Television, Skydance, and the extremely talented Aldis Hodge, who we know will do an exceptional job of bringing Alex Cross to life.”

Alex Cross series in development at Amazon
1st February 2020
Amazon Studios has put a new Alex Cross series in development.
Cross is the main hero of James Patterson’s bestselling crime novels, which follow the Metropolitan Police in Washington, D.C. The books have been running since 2003, with a total of 29 published to date. That kind of success and in-built audience is precisely what Amazon has been looking for in its choice of IP to adapt for Prime Video. Indeed, Amazon’s Bosch series, which is based on the Michael Connelly books, was renewed for a sixth season last year and is the streamer’s longest-running original project.
Cross is no stranger to the screen either, with Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry both portraying him in feature film adaptations including 1997’s Kiss the Girls, 2001’s Along Came a Spider and 2012‘s Alex Cross. Which books will be chosen to adapt for Amazon is not yet known, although its Bosch series has often adapted multiple novels at once to make up each season. The project hails from Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television, with Patterson and Bill Robinson exec-producing for James Patterson Entertainment. David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross will exec-produce for Skydance.
