Orphan Black Season 5 will premiere on Netflix UK this June – and the show’s final season is stepping up the stakes.
“From the very start, they hunted us, used us, controlled us… now, we fight to control our bodies, to love whom we choose.”
That’s Tatiana Maslay as Sarah Manning, a con artist who discovered that she is the product of a cloning programme. After four seasons of running, Sarah and her sisters are taking a stand, as they scramble to protect Kira from Neolutionists and unravel a mystery that stretches back more than a century.
The Canadian sci-fi series, created by Graeme Manson and John Fawcett and produced by BBC America, first arrived on our screens back in September 2013, a few weeks after its premiere in Canada. Since then, the show built up a following on BBC Three, with the third season premiering on BBC iPlayer in 2015. Last year, though, Netflix snapped up the exclusive rights to the show, not unlike its acquisition of Channel 4’s Black Mirror.
Orphan Black Season 5 therefore airs under the Netflix Original banner in the UK, which means that the 10 episodes will arrive on the streaming service on a weekly basis, within 24 hours of their US broadcast on BBC America (Season 1 to 4 are also available on Netflix UK).
The first episode of Season 5 will be released in the UK on Sunday 11th June at 8.01am, with the remaining episodes then added to the site every subsequent Sunday.
Sarah Barnett, President of BBC America said of the new season: “Orphan Black is a thrilling, genre-bending ride that has captured our fans’ imaginations and hearts like no other show. Our genius team of actors, writers and producers have, time after time, taken us to a place of awe, delight and utter shock and surprise. Tatiana has been and continues to be a complete revelation, hers is one of the most remarkable performances on television, and she is joined by an extraordinary cast. We can’t wait to take our incredibly passionate audience on one final gobsmacking clone adventure.”
Co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson added: “We are excited to deliver an epic conclusion to the tale of Sarah and her clone sisters. The past four seasons have been a phenomenal adventure and we are eternally grateful to our loyal fans who have loved the twists and thrills of our weird little show. We are thankful to our partners at Temple Street, and to BBC AMERICA and Space for their support and giving us the opportunity to end on a high. When we embarked upon this journey with John and Graeme, we knew we had something special on our hands, but didn’t imagine how deeply it would resonate with audiences and the worldwide acclaim it would receive. We are truly in awe of Tatiana who, each season, pulls off the impossible and brings each clone and their unique personalities to life in an extraordinarily captivating way.”
