What’s leaving Walter Presents in December 2020?
David Farnor | On 29, Dec 2020
Several years old and counting, Walter Presents continues its run of impressively curated and remarkably consistent foreign-language TV shows brought to UK screens for the first time. Hailing from countries as diverse as Japan, France, Brazil and Mexico, not to mention a whole host of Scandinavian thrillers and mysteries, the result has been a treasure trove of box sets to suit any taste.
Alas, as the treasure trove continues to fill up, some of those gems occasionally get removed to make way for new treats – and so it is that Walter Presents prepares to bid farewell to another wave of titles at the end of the year.
Here’s what’s departing All 4 in December 2020:
Mama’s Angel – 30th December
This dark psychological drama follows the brutal and shocking murder of a young boy in an affluent suburb of Tel Aviv. The 10-part series confronts the theme of institutionalised racism through a compelling plot driven by the power of maternal love. “Maternal bonds, social prejudice and hidden secrets collide in this compelling, nuanced Israeli drama,” we wrote in our review.
Maltese – 31st December
The end of a TV episode is normally the thing that makes you want to keep watching, but sometimes, it’s the beginning. So it is with this Italian drama, which show follows Dario Maltese (Kim Rossi Stuart), a typical honest cop who escaped the corrupt society of Sicily years ago. But in 1976, he heads back to his old stomping ground for the wedding of his friend, only for things to take a bloody turn. Read our full review
Rough Justice – 31st December
A Belgian crime drama with a sinister edge, Rough Justice is set in Antwerp, Superintendent Liese Meerhout leads her close-knit team in the homicide division to the bottom of the city’s darkest crimes. Following on from the hit series Rebecka Martinsson and Dicte, Liese continues a tradition of bold female crime-solvers on More4’s Friday European crime slot but this detective is prepared to go one step beyond her predecessors, pursuing justice at any cost. Liese is no ordinary defender of the law: she’s brash, breaks the rules and quite literally bangs the drum in her department. Always seeking to protect the vulnerable and maintain justice in the greatest sense, she is not afraid to push the boundaries to get to the bottom of even the most complex cases, usually using unorthodox methods. But when haunting emails from an unknown sender start appearing in her inbox, a case she thought she had long put behind her, begins to resurface and unnerve the usually steely and implacable superintendent.
