What’s leaving Sky and NOW TV in November / December 2018?
David Farnor | On 22, Nov 2018
Autumn is here and that means nights in on the sofa on increasingly dark evenings. Fortunately, there’s no end of things to catch up with on NOW or Sky before they depart from the streaming ether.
Sky’s box set collection is bidding farewell to the very beginning of The Walking Dead and Ray Donovan, just as the shows prepare to move on to pastures new, as well as Season 2 of The Deuce and the first season of the brand new treat that is A Discovery of Witches.
Sky Cinema, meanwhile, is waving goodbye to a diverse array of movies, from Raw and Avengers Assemble to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and O Brother, Where Art Thou? – just in time to catch up before seeing their new counterparts in cinemas and Netflix respectively.
Whichever you subscribe to, this coming month is your last chance to stream the following:
TV
Ray Donovan: Season 1 to 3 – 23rd November
Liev Schreiber stars as LA’s best professional fixer – clearing away the problems of the rich and famous, no matter how messy. Or how illegal.
The Walking Dead: Season 1 to 8 – 30th November
With Andrew Lincoln’s Rick bidding farewell to the franchise in the current season (still available on-demand), don’t miss your chance to catch up with the whole thing from the start.
A Discovery Of Witches: Season 1 – No Longer Being Removed
Based on the novel of the same name, the first in the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches tells the story of Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer), a historian and reluctant witch who accesses a bewitched manuscript and sets out to solve its mystery. Despite a long-held mistrust between witches and vampires, Diana forms a friendship with a vampire Matthew Clairmont (Matthew Goode).
The Deuce: Season 2 – 5th December
Starring James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Deuce follows the story of the legalisation and subsequent rise of the porn industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 70s through the mid-80s.
The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair – 6th December
Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud and based on the Swiss novel by Joël Dicker, this new series follows a young writer who visits the home of Harry Quebert to gain inspiration, however he instead finds out that Harry has been accused of murder. Starring Patrick Dempsey, Ben Schnetzer, Damon Wayans Jr., and Virginia Madsen.

Movies
Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them – 30th November
Hogwarts old boy Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) heads to Prohibition-era New York with a bottomless suitcase full of banned magical beasts. However, unaware of the rising tension between the secret world of US wizards and a fanatical faction of No-Majs (American for “Muggles”) bent on eradicating them, he finds himself in the middle of a war.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? – 6th December
No matter what, the Coen brothers can always be relied upon to make movies for themselves rather than anyone else. This take on Homer’s Odyssey – which sees three convicts (led by George Clooney) break out of a Depression-era Mississippi jail, only to form a barbershop triplet – is the perfect example. But O Brother, Where Art Thou? also proves that the Coen brothers’ movies never fail to entertain the rest of us too.
Raw – 13th December
A grisly and undefinable coming-of-age fable.
Avengers Assemble – 15th December
“He’s crazy.” “He’s my brother!” “He just killed 83 innocent civilians.” “He’s adopted.” You could easily spend a review of Avengers Assemble just quoting endless lines of dialogue. The secret to the film’s success? Hiring geek king, comic nerd and filmmaker extraordinaire Joss Whedon to make a movie. And holy purple shorts, he assembles the heck out of it.
