What’s leaving Netflix UK in January / February 2017?
David Farnor | On 17, Jan 2017
While we recover from the streampocalypse that was the end of another year, January 2017 is already racing away from us, with February looming dangerously close. That means it’s time to bid goodbye to another batch of titles, some good friends, some close acquaintances and some that strange guy in the office who keeps staring at you.
From X-Men to Woody Allen, this is your last chance to stream the following on Netflix UK:
The Purge: Anarchy – 17th January
The sequel to The Purge sees three groups of people trying to survive Purge Night – the one night of the year where murder and mayhem is permitted.
Maleficent – 20th January
Disney tweaks the Sleeping Beauty legend for the visually sumptuous tale of Maleficent (Angelina Jolie), a good fairy-turned-bad who spends years trying to atone for an act of malice. Her victim is Aurora (Elle Fanning), the daughter of her former love, Stefan (Sharlto Copley), who was seduced by power.
X-Men: Days of Future Past – 20th January
Bryan Singer’s prequel, sequel and reboot all in one is a mind-bending piece of sci-fi that manages to give every X-fan the ending – or beginning – they deserve.
Bananas – 22nd January
One of Woody Allen’s early, funny ones, this comedy about a neurotic male who gets involved with a group of rebels in the fictional dictatorship of San Marcos is dated and very hit-and-miss, but like Marvin Hamlisch’s lively music, punctuated by bullet holes, the relentless slapstick of Bananas has an energy that’s hard to resist.
Troll Hunter – 9th February
A group of students tracking bears stumble across something far bigger and older in the Norwegian outback: trolls. Luckily, they bump into a man whose job is to slay them for the government. Darkly amusing and witty, this unique Nordic horror is a little gem.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – 10th February
Cloverfield’s Matt Reeves picks up the camera for this sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes reboot. As a team of human settlers struggle to survive after the ape virus spread across the planet, they find themselves having to work with the primates – until politics causes war to break out.
High Plains Drifter – 10th February
Clint Eastwood stars and directs this iconic 1973 Western, which sees a gunslinging stranger bring the residents of Lago together to prepare for the arrival of three outlaws.
