Walter Presents is wooing The Netherlands once again this April, with new drama The Adulterer looking to seduce viewers seeking a late night binge.
The intoxicating series combines lust, betrayal and murder to tell the tale of Iris and Willem, who cross paths and cannot deny the intense chemistry between them – chemisrtry that will soon see their lives become more entangled than they could possibly imagine.
While married to a top prosecutor, with whom she has a young son, photographer Iris van Erkel-Hoegaarde meets Willem Steenhouwer at her exhibition launch. Immediately struck by overwhelming attraction for each other, the pair soon succumb to their feelings and embark on a passionate affair. Around the same time Willem, a respected defence lawyer, is called up to represent a man accused of murder. Unbeknownst to him, the case has also been assigned to prosecutor, and loving husband of Iris, Pepijn van Erkel. Once the lovers realise just how much is at stake, they have some tough decisions to make… or have they already been decided for them?
Viewers may recognise Sylvia Hoeks who plays Iris from Blade Runner 2049, and Fedja van Huêt who plays Willem from Walter Presents: Black Widow. Indeed, that’s one of several popular Netherlands hits on Walter Presents with other Netherland series nabbed by All 4’s online channel including Framed and The Swingers 2. The Adulterer was a success in its home country, garnering a number of awards, including Best TV Drama at the Nederlands Film Festival, and inspiring a US remake by ABC called Betrayal.
The 10-part thriller premieres on Channel 4 on 28th April at 11pm, with the full box set then available on All 4 following its broadcast.
