Computer, how many members have watched all episodes of Star Trek on Netflix? Set your phasers to statistics, because Netflix has boldly gone where no one has gone before: into its own archive of data. What it discovered is that Voyager is the most re-watched Star Trek series on Netflix.
Yes, Star Trek Voyager, the underrated run of the long-running franchise starring Orange Is the New Black’s Kate Mulgrew as Captain Janeway is the most re-watched of all the Star Treks. And, since Netflix signed a deal to snap up the rights to the entire back catalogue of the show, it’s got a lot of competition, with 695 episodes available in total.
Each step in the sci-fi saga has its merits: the Original Series debuted Klingons, The Next Generation set the stage for Deep Space 9 and Voyager, DS9 took Star Trek into serialised territory, and Voyager had the first female captain. While The Next Generation and The Original Series have bigger audiences, Voyager and Deep Space Nine fans are better repeat customers, more likely to return for their favourite episodes.
Not surprisingly, the first episodes of a series will usually be the most watched. However, looking beyond the first two episodes of any Season 1 in the collection, episodes that introduce iconic races, characters (Q, anybody?), or captains tend to be re-visited most. And of course, time travel, alien abductions or crossover episodes are big winners with Star Trek fans.
Nearly 12,000 fans have spent over 536 hours (or 22 days) watching Star Trek. Out of all of them, Voyager boasts the most revisited episode in the universe: Endgame: Parts 1 & 2 (Season 7, Episode 24) is the most re-watched episode in the entire franchise.
The data is released by Netflix as the world prepares to make it so once again, as Star Trek: Discovery premieres on 25th September, with a brand new ship and a brand new crew.
