David Farnor | On 17, Dec 2019
It’s to have a fresh start when your past is so close behind you. But a fresh start is what’s on the cards for Joe (Penn Badgley), a man who isn’t afraid to dig out past secrets from other people’s social media accounts and use them to manipulate them – or much worse.
After Season 1 saw him trick the woman of his dreams into a relationship, Season 2 – loosely based on Caroline Kepnes’ novel, Hidden Bodies – sees Joe head to Los Angeles, where he meets Love, an aspiring chef who doesn’t care about social media. She’s also tending to a deep grief – so when she meets Joe she senses a shared knowledge of loss. But in a town full of pretenders and facades, Joe could be more at home than ever.
Here’s the trailer for Season 2, which premieres on Netflix on Boxing Day:

Netflix lines up cast for You Season 2
3rd February 2010
Warning: This contains spoilers for You Season 1.
It’s only been a matter of weeks since You premiered on Netflix in the UK and other countries, and since the streaming giant acquired the programme as its own original show for a second season. Now, things are already moving ahead on the psychological thriller’s sophomore run, with a cast rapidly being locked into place.
From executive producers/writers Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, and based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, the series follows Joe Goldberg, a book shop owner who uses the hyper connectivity of today’s technology to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him – strategically removes every obstacle, and person, in his way. Season 1 starred Penn Badgley as Joe and Elizabeth Lail as the woman-of-his-dreams, Beck, and their twisting interactions and charismatic performances left viewers hooked.
Now, after Season 1’s finale teased us with a glimpse of Candace, Joe’s ex-girlfriend, played by Ambyr Childers, Netflix has confirmed that she will once again feature. Childers, who also appeared in The Master, Aquarius and Ray Donovan, has been upped to a series regular for Season 2, after her four episodes in Season 1.
She joins Victoria Pedretti (The Haunting of Hill House), who will play “Love Quinn, an aspiring chef who doesn’t care about social media. She’s also tending to a deep grief — so when she meets Joe she senses a shared knowledge of profound loss.”
Starring alongside the pair will be James Scully (Heathers) and Jenna Ortega (Jane the Virgin). Scully will play Forty Quinn, the brother of Love, who’s confident and opinionated. Ortega will play Ellie, a teenager who acts and appears older than she is, secretly living by herself and unafraid to bend the law to make some money – even when it comes to conning Joe Goldberg.
Victoria Pedretti joins Season 2 of Netflix’s You
31st January 2019
Victoria Pedretti has joined the second of Netflix’s You.
From executive producers/writers Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble, and based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, the psychological thriller was one of the most talked about series of the Christmas season, after it dropped on Netflix on Boxing Day. A 21st century “love” story about an obsessive, yet brilliant twenty-something, it follows Joe, a book shop owner who uses the hyper connectivity of today’s technology to make the woman of his dreams fall in love with him – strategically removes every obstacle, and person, in his way.
Season 1 starred Penn Badgley as Joe and Elizabeth Lail as the woman-of-his-dreams, Beck, and their twisting interactions and charismatic performances left viewers hooked.
“A wonderfully twisted ride, one that gets just the right blend of social smarts and cheesy pulp,” is how we described the show in our review. “You’ll nod sagely with every new twist, you’ll warily change all of your online passwords as soon as the end credits roll, then you’ll immediately start on the next episode.”
The show proved so popular on Netflix that the streaming giant has snapped up the entire thing as a Netflix original – despite the fact that it started out in the USA on Lifetime. With Season 2 already commissioned, Netflix is now assembling the cast for the drama’s return, and Badgley’s Joe is confirmed to be joined by Victoria Pedretti.
Pedretti, who delivered a breakout turn as Nell in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House breakout, will play “Love Quinn, an aspiring chef who doesn’t care about social media. She’s also tending to a deep grief — so when she meets Joe she senses a shared knowledge of profound loss.”

Trailer: Netflix and Lifetime team up for psychological thriller YOU
14th May 2018
Netflix is going Gone Girl for its latest original series, YOU, a co-production between the streaming giant and Lifetime.
The series is based on Caroline Kepnes’ best-selling novel of the same name, which was first published back in 2014. The show hails from Berlanti Productions, Man Sewing Dinosaur, and Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television and A&E Studios. Now, Netflix has boarded the project, as part of its co-licensing strategy that sees it buddy up with big US studios. Programmes such as Riverdale and Black Lightning have blazed the trail for the streaming service’s approach, which gives the site first-run distribution in territories outside of the US and helps cut production costs for its US studio.
It tells the story of Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), an obsessive yet brilliant New Yorker, who exploits today’s technology to win the heart of Beck (Elizabeth Lail), amid the growing suspicions of her best friend, Peach (Shay Mitchell). Joe transforms himself from stalker to boyfriend while doing whatever it takes to eliminate all obstacles standing in his way – even if it means murder. Set in today’s 24/7 hyper-connected world, YOU explores how vulnerable we all are to stalking and manipulation, both online and in real life.
The series also stars Elizabeth Lail, Luca Padovan, Zach Cherry, and Shay Mitchell, with a special guest appearance by John Stamos. Greg Berlanti, Sera Gamble, Sarah Schechter, Leslie Morgenstein, Gina Girolamo, and Marcos Siega serve as executive producers. Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble also wrote the first episode of the series, which was directed/executive produced by Lee Toland Krieger.
The series will premiere this September on Lifetime in the US, and will air as a Netflix original in the UK. Here’s the trailer:
