The second season of Italian TV series Gomorrah will be available to watch online from Wednesday 11th May 2016.
The show, which shows the inside story of the Naples mafia, is based on Robert Saviano’s book, which the New York Times dubbed “the most important book to come out of Italy in years”. The novel previously inspired the 2008 film of the same name, which was nominated for both a BAFTA and a Golden Globe. Now, it has been given the serial treatment, spanning 12 gritty episodes on Sky Atlantic – the channel’s first ever foreign language series.
Gomorrah follows fierce Neapolitan crime organisation the Camorra through the eyes of Ciro (Marco D’Amore), the obedient and self-confident right-hand man of the clan’s godfather, whose loyalty is tested to its limits.
The drama is partly directed by acclaimed Italian writer and director Stefano Sollima (Romanzo Criminale, All Cops Are Bastards), who is also responsible for the overall art direction. The programme is shot on location in and around Naples, Barcelona, Milan and Ferrara
Julia Barry, Channel Director for Sky Atlantic, comments: “Following on the success of Sky Atlantic’s first bi-lingual drama, The Tunnel, we’re thrilled to announce the acquisition of the channel’s first foreign language series. With cinematic scale and a gripping tale of conflict, loyalty and power, Gomorrah is a perfect addition to Sky Atlantic’s impressive slate of quality shows – both acquired and home-grown – which we pride ourselves in bringing exclusively to our customers.”
Alex Agran, Managing Director of Arrow Films, adds: “Atlantic is the perfect home for this outstanding series and Arrow Films is proud to bring the first foreign language series to the channel. We look forward to a fruitful ongoing relationship with Sky.”
