Timeless Season 2 will officially return to UK TV screens this April, E4 has confirmed.
Created by Eric Kripke (Revolution, Supernatural), Shawn Ryan (The Shield) and the producers of The Blacklist, NBC’s sci-fi thriller follows a group of unlikely heroes thrust into the adventure of their lives. Chasing a mysterious group of criminals through time and encountering some of the most seminal moments in history, the group attempts to thwart a dark conspiracy that is a threat to all of humanity.
The drama stars Abigail Spencer (Rectify), Matt Lanter (90210), Malcolm Barrett (Hurt Locker), Goran Visnjic (ER), Sakina Jaffrey (The Mindy Project), Paterson Joseph (The Leftovers), Susanna Thompson (Arrow) and Claudia Doumit (Scandal).
“The idea of altering the past to change the present seems mighty appealing… NBC’s Timeless taps into that idea beautifully, combining fun characters and a thrilling sense of adventure with twisty, history-altering time-travel shenanigans, we wrote in our review of Season 1.
The fact that the show has even reached a second season, though, is news in itself: after its first outing aired in both the US and UK, NBC cancelled the programme, deeming it too expensive for the response it received. A swift fan outcry later, though, and NBC announced that it had un-cancelled the show, instead ordering a 10-episode second season, apparently even keeping the budget the same.
In the meantime, the show has also found an audience on Netflix UK, although E4 remains the first home of the series. And so, before it lands on Netflix, Season 2 will air on E4, starting from Wednesday 4th April.
Season 2 picks up right where we left off with our heroes. We continue to race throughout history with the team in an attempt to prevent the destruction of the world as we all know it. This season they’ll find an unlikely ally in their quest to ruin Rittenhouse, a deadly organization with plans to change history and reshape reality. Still making every effort not to affect the past themselves, they will visit the years 1692, 1917, 1941, 1981 and more. We’ll be introduced to the likes of Marie Curie, Hedy Lamarr, William Randolph Hearst and a multitude of other influential people throughout history.
