STARZPLAY will give The Spanish Princess a royal welcome this May, bringing a fresh perspective to England’s Tudor court.
The STARZ Original Limited Series, based on the novels The Constant Princess and The King’s Curse by Philippa Gregory, is told uniquely from the point of view of the women, shedding light on a previously untold corner of history: the lives of people of colour, living and working in 16th century London.
The series is created by showrunners Emma Frost and Matthew Graham, with Colin Callender, Scott Huff, Charlie Pattinson, and Charlie Hampton on board as executive producers.
It stars Charlotte Hope (Allied) as Catherine of Aragon, the strong-willed young Princess of Spain, who has been promised the English throne since she was a child. She arrives in a grey, rain-lashed England with her glorious and diverse court including her ladies-in-waiting, Lina (Stephanie Levi-John, Striking Out) – a Spanish noble of African Iberian descent – and the sweet and free-spirited Rosa (Nadia Parkes, The Spanish Princess). When her husband, Prince Arthur (Angus Imrie, The Kid Who Would Be King), dies suddenly, the throne seems lost to Catherine, until she devises an audacious plan and sets her sights on the new heir, the charismatic and headstrong Prince Harry (Ruairi O’Connor, Delicious) who will one day rule as King Henry VIII.
STARZPLAY is a subscription streaming service that’s available via the Prime Video app or on Virgin TV, as an additional £4.99 a month subscription. It gives subscribers access to acclaimed STARZ series such as Mr. Mercedes and The Royals, along with its growing selection of exclusive STARZ Originals on the same day they launch in the US, including Now Apocalypse. The Spanish Princess is one of them, premiering in the UK on STARZPLAY on the asme day as its US premiere: Sunday 5th May. Episodes will arrive weekly alongside the American broadcast.
