Anya Taylor-Joy and Scott Frank are headed to Netflix for The Queen’s Gambit.
The series, which is based on Walter Tevis’s novel of the same name, chronicles the life of an orphan chess prodigy. The story – set during the Cold War era – follows Beth Harmon from the age of eight to 22, as she struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world.
BAFTA Rising Star nominee Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Glass,The Witch) will star as Beth Harmon. Anya is no stranger to Netflix: as well as Season 5 of Peaky Blinders (a Netflix show in the USA), she will soon be seen in Netflix series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
Two time Academy Award nominee Scott Frank (Logan) is also no stranger to the streamer, having written and directed Western series Godless. He will serve as writer, director, and executive producer on The Queen’s Gambit, with William Horberg (The Talented Mr Ripley) also exec-producing and Allan Scott (Don’t Look Now, The Preacher’s Wife) on board as co-writer and exec producer.
Netflix has ordered a six-episode series.
