New Batman prequel Pennyworth will premiere in the UK on STARZPLAY.
The subscription streaming service has pounced on the programme, which follows Alfred Pennyworth (Jack Bannon – The Imitation Game), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge – Our Girl, Reign, Fleabag), who’s not yet become Bruce Wayne’s father. In addition to Bannon and Aldridge, the series stars Emma Paetz (Gentleman Jack), Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (Eastenders), Ryan Fletcher (Outlander), and Dorothy Atkinson (Hanna, Harlots, Call the Midwife), along with Paloma Faith (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) and Jason Flemyng (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).
Based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, the 10-episode drama series from Warner Horizon Scripted Television is executive produced by Bruno Heller (Gotham) and Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI). The series is distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.
Pennyworth is the most recent high-profile acquisition for the STARZPLAY platform with a portfolio that includes the anthology series The Act. STARZPLAY costs £4.99 a month and is available on Apple TV, Prime Video Channels and Virgin Media. The subscription includes series such as Mr. Mercedes, Deadly Class and a growing selection of exclusive STARZ Originals on the same day they launch in the US, including The Spanish Princess and Vida, plus Harlots, Sweetbitter and more.
