Trailer: Killing Eve Season 2 to premiere 8th June
David Farnor | On 24, May 2019
Killing Eve Season 2 will officially premiere on Saturday 8th June, and a new trailer gives us a new look at the show’s return.
The award-winning series that stars Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer topples the typical spy-action thriller as two fiercely intelligent women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse.
Adapted from the Luke Jennings’ Codename Villanelle novels by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Season 2 sees Emerald Fennell (Monsters, The Drifters) take over as lead writer, with Waller-Bridge remaining on board as exec-producer. New additions in front of the camera include Nina Sosanya (Good Omens), Edward Bluemel (A Discovery of Witches), and Julian Barratt (Flowers).
“Dark, violent, and endlessly witty, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s addictively unpredictable thriller is a funny, female-led treat,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
Audiences clearly agreed, with Season 1 receiving 49 million download requests to date on BBC iPlayer, the highest of any programme on ever.
Now, after a long wait, Season 2 is finally arriving on UK screens. It picks up immediately after everything that happened in the finale, with Eve in a precarious situation and Villanelle on the run.
It will premiere on Saturday 8th June with a double-bill on BBC One at a yet-to-be-confirmed time. The whole box set, meanwhile, will be released simultaneously on BBC iPlayer.
Here’s the new video:
Killing Eve Season 2 set for June release
15th May 2019
Killing Eve Season 2 is set for a June UK release, the BBC has revealed.
American viewers have been enjoying weekly episodes of the assassin thriller’s sophomore run ever since 7th April, but UK audiences have been waiting in anticipation to catch up with Jodie Comer’s Villanelle and Sandra Oh’s Eve, the agent tasked with catching her.
Adapted from the Luke Jennings’ Codename Villanelle novels by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Season 2 sees Emerald Fennell (Monsters, The Drifters) take over as lead writer, with Waller-Bridge remaining on board as exec-producer. New additions in front of the camera include Nina Sosanya (Good Omens), Edward Bluemel (A Discovery of Witches), and Julian Barratt (Flowers).
With details drip-feeding about Season 2 ever since Season 1 aired in September 2018 – it has already been renewed for Season 3 – the good news is that the wait in the UK for Season 2 won’t be much longer: speaking at a screening of Season 2 this week, the BBC’s Charlotte Moore announced that Season 2 would arrive on British screens next month. And, even better than that, it will arrive as a box set on BBC iPlayer. She also noted that Season 1 has seen 49 million download requests to date, the highest of any programme on BBC iPlayer ever.

Season 2 will see both Villanelle and Eve return, with Emerald Fennell (Monsters, The Drifters) taking over as lead writer and Waller-Bridge remaining on board as exec-producer. Filming has taken place in locations including Amsterdam, London and Paris. Killing Eve Season 2 to air on BBC
12th October 2018
Killing Eve will officially return to the BBC for Season 2.
The critically acclaimed female-led spy thriller, which is created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), stars Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) and Jodie Comer (Doctor Foster) as the cat-and-mouse duo of Eve and Vilanelle, a bored MI5 security officer tasked with tracking down the fearsome assassin.
“Dark, violent, and endlessly witty, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s addictively unpredictable thriller is a funny, female-led treat,” we wrote in our review of Season 1.
With Emmy nominations and huge success in the USA, the series was promptly renewed for a second run, with Nina Sosanya (Good Omens), Edward Bluemel (A Discovery Of Witches) and guest star Julian Barrett (Mindhorn) joining the cast. Season 1 made its debut on BBC One and as a box set through BBC Three on BBC iPlayer last month and has become a massive hit with audiences – there have been over 26 million requests for the series so far. Now, the BBC has officially acquired the rights for its sophomore outing.
Writer-actor Emerald Fennell (Monsters, The Drifters) will take over as lead writer for Season 2, with Waller-Bridge remaining on board as exec-producer. It is currently filming in locations including Amsterdam, London and Paris.
Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, says: “A truly genre-busting series that’s had viewers hooked and craving more, thanks to the distinctive voice of Phoebe Waller Bridge brought to life by an incredible cast. We’re really excited to have it back on the BBC next year.”
Damian Kavanagh, Controller of BBC Three, adds: “The first series of Killing Eve has been a huge success for us on BBC Three. The writing is exceptional, the performances first-class and our young audiences have loved and binged right through it – we can’t wait to see what series two has in store.”
The first series of Killing Eve is available as a box set now on BBC iPlayer and is airing weekly on BBC One on Saturday nights.
BBC Three’s Killing Eve to premiere on 15th September
5th September 2018
Killing Eve finally has a UK air date, with the BBC Three and BBC One series landing on our TV screens this September.
The eight-part high-stakes thriller, based on the Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings, is created by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The show stars Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Eve, a bored MI5 security officer whose desk job does not fulfil her fantasies of being a spy. Jodie Comer (Thirteen) is Villanelle, a fearsome assassin clinging to the luxuries her violent job affords her. When Eve is tasked with tracking down Villanelle before she can strike again, the two women are thrown into a cat-and-mouse game that turns the traditional spy thriller on its head.
Heading up an ensemble cast, the pair are joined by Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter) as Carolyn Martens, David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral) as Eve’s colleague, Bill, and Kim Bodnia (The Bridge) as Konstantin. The supporting cast includes Darren Boyd (Fortitude) as Frank Haleton, Sean Delaney (Midsomer Murders) as Kenny Stowton, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Downward Dog) as Elena Felton, and Owen McDonnell (Paula) as Niko.
Before the series has even aired on British soil, it has already seen huge access in the USA. Killing Eve capped its incredible first season with an unbroken record of weekly ratings growth in the key adults 25-54 and 18-49 demos – something no other show on US television has accomplished in more than a decade. Sandra Oh has also been nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series category and Waller-Bridge has been nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. The series was named Best New Show by the Television Critics Association.
It comes as no surprise, then, that it has already been renewed for a second season, will Julian Barratt, Nina Sosanya (Good Omens) and Edward Bluemel (A Discovery of Witches) joining the ensemble.
As Season 2 films in Europe, Season 1 finally has a UK air date, with the series set to premiere on BBC One at 9.15pm on Saturday 15th September. The whole box set will be released by BBC Three on BBC iPlayer at the same time.
