Netflix renews The Ranch for Season 4

Netflix has renewed The Ranch for a fourth season.
The US sitcom, which follows the Bennett family ranch, stars Ashton Kutcher as Colt, a washed up high-school football star who has returned home to his father’s ranch after years away. Season 3 premiered its first half earlier this year, with a second half (Part 6) still on its way – the show was Netflix’s first programme to get a 20-episode order, with its release split into two, a tactic now used for Matt Groening’s Disenchantment.
Part 6 will see the introduction of a new character to the sitcom: Dax Shepard as Luke Matthews, a former soldier who has come to Garrison with some history concerning the Iron River Ranch. He meets the Bennetts and forms an immediate bond with Colt, although his past has a way of catching up with him.
Dax’s casting was to replace the departed Danny Masterson, who was removed from the show following multiple accusations of rape. He joins an ensemble that includes Sam Elliott as father Beau, Debra Winger as mother Maggie and Elisha Cuthbert as girlfriend Abby. Netflix is obviously confident in the show’s strengths lying away from Masterson, not only casting a new character to fulfil his role on the show (Dax is officially credited as a guest star for Season 3), but also giving the order for a fourth season (another 20 episodes) before Season 3’s second half has aired. Whether Dax will return for Season 4 is not yet confirmed.
The Ranch’s success has helped to pave the way for a number of other multi-camera sitcoms at Netflix, including Fuller House and One Day at a Time.
