Production is now underway on Netflix’s Triad Princess. The Taiwanese original series, announced last November, is created by talented playwright-director Neal Wu, known as a leading representative of Taiwanese popular literature and for his acclaimed movie At Cafe 6. It tells the story of sweet but fierce Angie, who, after growing up under the shadow of her mafia-affiliated father, defies his wishes and takes on a gig as a bodyguard of a famous actress Ling-Yun in an elaborate plan to get closer to her love interest, superstar Xu Yi Hang, despite the rumours of Ling and Xu’s romantic coupling.
The series stars Jasper Liu from More Than Blue, the No. 1 Mandarin blockbuster in Taiwan last year, and upcoming actress Eugenie Liu (Mon Mon Mon Monsters). The brand new pairing of Jasper Liu and Eugenie Liu already stirred discussion among fans before production even started. Stepping away from his usual style and taking on a new look to play Xu Yi Hang, an easy-going yet quirky superstar, Jasper Liu says: “When I first read the script, I was both charmed and perplexed by the distinctiveness of the character.”
Filming will take place in Taipei and Kaohsiung.Triad Princess is the second Mandarin drama series Netflix has invested in Taiwan, following Nowhere Man.
Neal Wu shares: “I am a storyteller. You may have known my literary works, music and movies, yet participating in this drama series is a next-level challenge for me. I am excited to work with a global partner such as Netflix, and I believe our creative co-efforts will inspire unexpected chemistry.”
Erika North, Director of International Originals at Netflix, adds: “We are very excited to share the unique love story of Triad Princess with audiences around the globe.”
