Jane Seymour leads new cast additions for The Kominsky Method
9th February 2019
Jane Seymour is leading a trio of impressive casting additions for Netflix’s The Kominsky Method.
The comedy series, which premiered last November, stars Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin as the once-famous actor Sandy Kominsky and his longtime agent, Norman Newlander, two friends tackling life’s curveballs as they navigate their later years in Los Angeles, a city that values youth and beauty.
The eight-episode, half-hour single camera show is created by Chuck Lorre, who wrote the series with Al Higgins and David Javerbaum. While it was met with mixed reviews, the show won two Golden Globes at the start of the year, for both Best Comedy and Best Actor (Douglas). Shortly after, Netflix ordered a second season, with Douglas and Arkin both returning.
Now, the streaming giant has confirmed that they’ll be joined by a trio of names: Jane Seymour as a rekindled flame from Norman’s past, Jacqueline Bisset as Sandy’s ex-wife, and Paul Reiser plays a high school teacher who woos Mindy, Sandy’s daughter.
The Kominsky Method is available on Netflix UK, as part of an £9.99 monthly subscription.
Netflix renews The Kominsky Method for Season 2
18th June 2018
Netflix has officially booked in a second session of the Kominsky Method, with the comedy series renewed for another season.
The series, which premiered last November, introduces us to the once famous Sandy Kominsky (Douglas) and his longtime agent Norman Newlander (Arkin), two friends tackling life’s inevitable curveballs as they navigate their later years in Los Angeles, a city that values youth and beauty. The eight-episode, half-hour single camera show is created by Chuck Lorre, who wrote the series with Al Higgins and David Javerbaum.
The show was met with a mixed reception, including our own review, which praised its lead duo, but found the show to be lacking elsewhere.
“Douglas and Arkin are clearly enjoying themselves as two believably old friends, and it’s rare that TV stares mortality in the face so bluntly and honestly, but look past that and this witty two-man show is playing to an empty room,” we wrote.
Nonetheless, the series impressed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. who named the show Best Comedy Series at the Golden Globes and also awarded Best Lead Actor to Douglas for his performance. As the first Netflix comedy to win a best comedy series win at the Globes, it’s perhaps no surprise that the streaming giant has ordered more, with the eight-episode second season set to begin production later this month.
