Trailer: Trollhunters returns for Part 2 this December

This Christmas, the hunters become the hunted, as Trollhunters returns to Netflix for Part 2.
The animation, created by Guillermo del Toro and produced by DreamWorks, sees two fantastical worlds collide in an epic saga. Set in the fictional suburb of Arcadia, it follows our unlikely hero, Jim, and his two best friends, who make a startling discovery that beneath their hometown lies a hidden battle between good trolls and bad, the outcome of which impacts their lives forever.
“This epic animation is a treat for del Toro fans that will soon make their kids fans too,” we wrote in our review of the first season. “Anton Yelchin’s hugely likeable lead is an ideal window into this world, managing to share our astonishment at the show’s Troll Market, which rivals the one from Hellboy, and the thrill of an ordinary kid being able to go toe-to-toe with a bunch of fantastic beasts. It’s that rush of adventure that will keep you coming back to Trollhunters episode after episode, a rush that extends from the lively introductory music to the cute hand-drawn end credits.”
The first season arrived soon after the tragic death of Yelchin, and he was a huge part of the show’s charm and success. Yelchin, however, had already recorded his vocal work for Season 2 – a testament to Netflix and DreamWorks’ confidence in the show, as well as Yelchin’s own talents.
He’s joined in Part 2 by returning co-stars Kelsey Grammer as Blinky, Ron Perlman as the villainous Bular, Steven Yeun as Steve, Anjelica Huston as Queen Ursurna, Amy Landecker as Barbara and Charlie Saxton as Jim’s best friend, Toby, plus new vocal additions Mark Hamill, Lena Headey and David Bradley.
Part 2 lands on Netflix on 15th December, just in time for holiday streaming with the family. Here’s the trailer:
Mark Hamill, Lena Headey and David Bradley join Trollhunters Season 2
22nd September 2017
Mark Hamill, Lena Headey and David Bradley have joined the second season of Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters.
The Netflix animation, produced by DreamWorks, sees two fantastical worlds that collide in an epic saga. Set in the fictional suburb of Arcadia, it follows our unlikely hero, Jim, and his two best friends, who make a startling discovery that beneath their hometown lies a hidden battle between good trolls and bad, the outcome of which impacts their lives forever.
The series is created and executive produced by del Toro with Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow), Rodrigo Blaas (Alma) and Chad Hammes (Dragons: Race to the Edge) and Christina Steinberg (Rise of the Guardians) serving as executive producers. Dan Hageman (The Lego Movie, Ninjago) and Kevin Hageman (The Lego Movie, Ninjago) serve as co-executive producers.
The show has led the Creative Arts Daytime Emmys with six wins, more than any other programme, including writing for an animated program (Marc Guggenheim), directing (Rodrigo Blaas, del Toro), casting (Ania O’Hare, Mary Hildalgo) and a voice acting win for Kelsey Grammer.
The rest of the cast is equally star-studded, including Ron Perlman as the villainous Bular, Steven Yeun as Steve, Anjelica Huston as Queen Ursurna, Amy Landecker as Barbara, Charlie Saxton as Jim’s best friend, Toby, and the late Anton Yelchin in the lead role. Yelchin, who passed away just before the premiere of Season 1, had fortunately already recorded his vocal work for Season 2.
He’ll be joined by equally impressive names for Season 2. Hamill will voice the unknown older brother to a member of the Trollhunting team, who has pledged his loyalty to the evil Gunmar. Headey plays an extremely powerful and evil sorceress who must be stopped at all costs, while Bradley voices a mysterious figure known to have great magical powers – but the Trollhunters find he’s not the mystical wizard they expected.
Season 2 picks up with Jim entering the Darklands by himself, leaving his best friends and fellow Trollhunters, Toby and Claire, behind. After the first 26-episode run, Season 2 will span 13 episodes and premieres later this year.
