Jake Johnson is heading to Netflix for a new animated series, Hoops.
The adult animation centers around a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks turning around his God-awful team will take him to the big leagues.
Jake Johnson (New Girl, BoJack Horseman, Spider Man: Into the Spider-verse) will voice the character of Coach Ben Hopkins. The series is created by Ben Hoffman, who serves as writer and executive producer, with Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The Lego Movie), Seth Cohen and Johnson on board NWEPs.
The series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television, with Bento Box (Bob’s Burgers) providing the animation. Netflix has ordered 10 half-hour episodes.
The show marks Netflix’s ongoing push into adult-oriented animated series, from Matt Groening’s Disenchantment and Paradise PD (from the makers of Brickleberry) to space series Final Space, hormone-addled comedy Big Mouth and Amberville, from the co-director of Sausage Party.
