Robert Rodriguez is heading to Apple TV+ for his next project, El Gato Negro.
The Spy Kids and El Mariachi director will soon helm his own Netflix family actioner, but then will take a bite out of Apple’s upcoming streaming service for his next project, which will bring the comic book of the same name to the screen.
Created by Richard Dominguez, it follows two crime-fighting heroes in South Texas: a young man who takes up the mantle of a fabled local hero to avenge the death of his friend, and a Mexican wrestler-turned-crime fighter.
THR reports that Rodriguez will direct and executive produce the series, with Diego Boneta also exec producing via his company Three Amigos. Boneta will star in show too.
The project hails from MGM Television and is currently in development, with Joel Novoa attached as co-producer. Supergirl writer Eric Carrasco is attached as writer.
