Dame Edna is returning to BBC One for one night only.
Following her emotional farewell tour, Edna has been enjoying luxury downtime on board an enormous yacht, sailing the seas without a care in the world. But now, she’s back to bring her legendary entertainment show to BBC One one more. Filmed in front of an audience, Dame Edna will host an exclusive evening with celebrity chat, music and a few surprises direct from her luxury yacht, staffed by some familiar faces.
Her return follows the success of Mrs. Brown’s Boys on BBC One, which has spawned a similar entertainment show for Saturday nights called All Round to Mrs. Brown’s. With Alan Partridge proving popular with BBC One’s This Time too, it’s only natural that the original queen of comedy character talk shows should make a comeback.
On her return, Dame Edna says: “The world needs sunshine so I am very happy to welcome you all on board. One hour on my yacht is better than a lifetime on a cruise liner.”
Kate Philips, Controller, Entertainment Commissioning, says: “There’s nothing like a Dame Edna and I can’t wait for this unforgettable one off special to hit our screens. With a whole host of celebrities bravely stepping on board to join the First Lady of Oz we’re all in for an absolute treat.”
Rachel Ashdown, BBC Commissioning Editor, says: “Over the past 50 years Dame Edna has got to grips with the world’s biggest stars and I am looking forward to seeing her welcome the current generation of celebrities to her sofa.”
Commissioned by Kate Phillips, Controller, Entertainment Commissioning, The Dame Edna Show (w/t) is produced by Studio 1. The Executive Producer is Claudia Rosencrantz, Dame Edna’s long-time Producer. The Commissioning Editor for the BBC is Rachel Ashdown.
The Dame Edna Show will air on later this year on BBC One.
