Amazon has renewed Goliath for Season 3.
Created by David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal) and Jonathan Shapiro (The Practice), the legal drama stars Billy Bob Thornton as washed-up lawyer Billy McBride. Thornton won the 2017 Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series for the thriller, which became the most-binged first season of an Amazon original series in its first 10 days.
Amazon swiftly renewed the show for a second run, with Thornton reprising his role, joined by new series regulars Mark Duplass, Morris Chestnut and Ana De La Reguera. A change behind the scenes, meanwhile, saw Lawrence Trilling (Parenthood) and Geyer Kosinski (Fargo) exec-produce Season 2.
“Billy Bob Thornton is phenomenal in Goliath’s bigger, darker second season,” we wrote in our review.
Now, Amazon has officially ordered a third case for McBride. Trilling returns as showrunner for Season 3, which will see the unexpected death of an old friend lead Billy to take a case in the drought-stricken Central Valley where he comes face-to-face with a new Goliath: a billionaire rancher and his sister.
Returning alongside Thornton are Nina Arianda (Stan & Ollie) as Patty Solis-Papagian, Tania Raymonde (Cliffs of Freedom) as Brittany Gold, Diana Hopper (Bit) as Denise McBride, Ana de la Reguera (Narcos) as Marisol Silva, and Julie Brister (Review) as Marva Jefferson.
New cast members will include Dennis Quaid (The Day After Tomorrow), Amy Brenneman (The Leftovers), Beau Bridges (Homeland), Griffin Dunne (House of Lies), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks: The Return), and Shamier Anderson (Destroyer).
Trilling, Geyer Kosinski (Fargo), Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner (Boardwalk Empire) will exec-produce Season 3.
“Our Prime Video customers loved the first two seasons of Goliath, and I’m excited we can bring them a new season of this sharp and surprising legal drama,” Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios, said in a statement. “We have an incredible array of stars joining Billy Bob and the Goliath cast, and fans will be thrilled to see what’s in store for Season Three.”
